Second round table and information event “Decentralization of the Energy Sector in Bulgaria”
On 20.10.2022, at 15:30 p.m. in the city of Kostinbrod, Chitalishte "Ivan Vazov – 1947", was held a second round table and information event "Decentralization of the Energy Sector in Bulgaria", implemented by the PROJECT "ACTIVE CITIZENS FOR ENERGY INDEPENDENT MUNICIPALITIES", which is implemented with the financial support of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway under the Active Citizens Fund Bulgaria within the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area.
The meeting was part of an information campaign focused on the three axes of the transition to the green economy – Decarbonization, Decentralization and Digitalization.
The event was opened by the Mayor of Kostinbrod Municipality - Mr. Trayko Mladenov.
He underlined that the decentralization of the energy sector is one of the most important topics in terms of the energy transition. Electricity and heat generated from renewable energy sources require the construction of many small generation facilities that are located closer to the place of consumption.
Senior Researcher Eng. Ivan Hinovski - Chairman of the Bulgarian Energy and Mining Forum /BEMF/, presented the current rules and procedure for organizing a photovoltaic project and the topic of energy communities - their benefits and role in the decentralization of the energy market.
Mr. Stefan Abadzhiev from the Bulgarian Branch Chamber "Smart Grids" presented smart technologies as a basis for building energy communities, as well as the issues related to the decentralization of the energy sector.
The financial instruments for green transition were also presented at the event by Tsveta Dimitrova – Program Director of the Institute for Entrepreneurship, Sustainable Development and Innovation /IESDI/.
The discussion revolved around the issues related to a decentralized system and the necessary infrastructure, the challenges in using this energy system, the return on investment in renewable energy sources, etc.

Ec. Mr. Georgi Ivanov – representative of Multiprint Ltd., Dr. Atanas Tenev – Chairman of the Municipal Council of Kostinbrod, Mr. Alexander Nenov – Deputy Mayor of Kostinbrod Municipality, Mrs. Gergana Velichkova – Deputy Mayor of the village of Opitsvet, Mrs. Emilia Kostova – Mayor of the village of Bogyovtsi, experts from the municipality and interested citizens.
The project is implemented by the Association of Bulgarian Cities and Regions (ABCR), in partnership with the Institute for Entrepreneurship, Sustainable Development and Innovation (IESDI), the Bulgarian Energy and Mining Forum (BEMF) and B16 Urban Energy AS, Oslo, Norway.
