Training for Agents for Change
On September 20, 2021, at the Agricultural University in Plovdiv, lecturers from the Institute for Entrepreneurship, Sustainable Development and Innovation (IESDI) held a training session with "agents for change" on the topic of adaptation to climate change in agriculture.
The training was part of the Active Farmers for Climate Change Adaptation project. Many aspects of the active participation of students were discussed, the main ones being:
(1) a framework for assessing climate change mitigation and adaptation, (2) the role of indigenous breeds in organic livestock, (3) the need to grow crops that are better adapted to warming and droughts, and more resistant to diseases and pests, (4) opportunities for the development of intelligent agriculture (digitally connected equipment and tools) for more economical production, (5) the benefits of regenerative agriculture, including cover crops, without sowing and crop rotation, to improve the structure soil, substance retention and moisture; and (6) the need for faster and easier access for farmers to information on sustainable agriculture, as well as support for leading farmers to apply and demonstrate new practices.
The young farmers and student farmers exchanged views and experiences on applied agri-environmental practices and a desire to participate in the future network of "agents for change".
The project is implemented with financial support provided by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway under the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 - www.activecitizensfund.bg.
