First round table - “Decarbonization” in Tryavna municipality

The first round table - "Decarbonization" was held in the Municipality of Tryavna on 28 June 2022. It was part of an information campaign focused on the three axes of the transition to a green economy - Decarbonization, Decentralization and Digitalization.

The purpose of the round table was to discuss between local stakeholders and project experts the possibility for citizens to participate in the energy transition by creating energy communities as a possible social innovation.

Citizens, entrepreneurs, SME owners, employees of the Regional Center for Sustainable Development, employees of the EDC, representatives of NGOs and representatives of the administration were invited to the round table.

Citizens’ awareness and activity will help for a faster transition to energy democracy, the presence of special regulations to build a socially fair energy system and facilitate universal access to cheap energy. This, in turn, will lead to fair prices for society and will create well-paid jobs.

The activity is aimed at raising awareness among citizens, stakeholders and the general public and discussing European and national policies, regulations and concepts related to the transition to a green economy and energy communities.

The issues discussed covered the delay in to adopt a good legislative framework for the establishment and operation of energy cooperatives in Bulgaria, which is why their establishment is practically prohibited, and the transposition of Directive 2018-2021 of the European Union, which stimulates small producers of electricity from renewable energy sources after their association.

The discussion was attended by Mrs. Ralitsa Marinova – Project Manager, Mrs. Tsveta Dimitrova – Program Director of the Institute for Entrepreneurship, Sustainable Development and Innovation (IESDI) and Senior Researcher Eng. Ivan Hinovski – Chairman of the Bulgarian Energy and Mining Forum (BEMF), Mr. Evtim Evtimov – representative of the Association of Bulgarian Cities and Regions (ABCR).
